Why Are Our Repair Prices & Turnaround Always "From RM...+"?

Google Verified Business  ·  28+ Years Experience (Since 1998)  ·  4.9★ Google  ·  Standard Component Warranty*  ·  Free Pickup & Delivery  ·  Open Sun–Fri

No honest IT repair shop can give you one fixed price without opening your unit first. Part costs vary by model, type, and current market pricing — even for us, after 28+ years in this industry. That's why every price on this site is a starting range ("from RM..." or "RM...+"), and the final price is only confirmed in writing after diagnosis, before any work begins.

What Our Customers Say — Straight From Google

Part Prices Move With The Market, Not With Us

The price of certain parts — especially RAM, SSD and GPU — shifts significantly with global demand, not something we set ourselves. A real example: a year or two ago, upgrading RAM or an SSD was one of the cheapest upgrades we could offer. Since global demand for AI chips spiked — combined with a renewed wave of GPU mining demand — prices for these components have jumped sharply, sometimes to the point where a single stick of RAM or an SSD costs nearly as much as an older laptop. This isn't unique to Dotronix — it's happening across the entire global IT industry. That's why RAM, SSD and GPU are listed as "Market Price" rather than a fixed figure, even on our own Master Service Rate Card.

Every Model, Brand and Design Has a Different Cost

A single keyboard alone can range from as low as RM160 to over RM400, depending entirely on the model, type (standard vs. backlit/original), and supplier. Batteries, screens, casings — each has enormous variation in shape, size, fitment and design across laptop models and brands. One fixed price for "battery replacement" or "keyboard replacement" across every laptop model on the market simply isn't realistic — that's why we always give a range (e.g. RM180–400+), not a single figure.

Why Is There a Minimum Charge Even For Small Jobs?

Every repair — however small — involves diagnostic time, technician expertise, and often logistics (pickup & delivery). Without a minimum charge for small jobs, it becomes unsustainable for any repair shop to keep operating and serving customers. A minimum charge doesn't mean we're taking advantage — it ensures we can keep offering the same transparent, quality service to every customer, including those who only need a small repair.

The Real Process Before We Can Confirm a Price
01

We receive your unit

Either you send it in yourself, or you use our free pickup & delivery service.

02

We open and inspect it

The unit is opened to access the damaged area and identify the real root cause.

03

We pull the real part number

The exact part number or spec is recorded from your actual unit, not guessed at.

04

We check price & stock with suppliers

Real part pricing and stock availability are checked at that exact moment — not an old price that may have already changed.

05

We send a written quote

You receive the final price in writing before we proceed with any work.

06

We only proceed once you agree

No work begins without your approval. If you decide not to proceed, this assessment remains FREE.

How Long Will a Repair Take?

Turnaround depends entirely on whether the part you need is already in stock with our suppliers, or needs to be ordered from overseas. We work directly with established Malaysian suppliers who have clear systems and guidelines — not ad-hoc arrangements — so we can give you an honest expected timeline, not a rough guess.

Part needs to be ordered from overseas14–21 working daysA firm policy with our core suppliers — not a rough estimate

If your repair needs an overseas order, we'll flag this clearly at the quote stage, and any deposit is only requested AFTER you agree to proceed — not before. Throughout the wait, if there's any development or change, we'll proactively update you and only continue with your approval at every step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the real cost depends on what we actually find — your unit's exact model, the type of damage, and part prices at that moment. Even after 28+ years in this industry, we can't confirm an exact price without inspecting the real unit first. The ranges we quote (e.g. RM220+) are honest estimates based on real experience, not random figures.
Because these three components are the most exposed to global market swings — AI chip demand and renewed GPU mining have pushed component prices up sharply in a short time. Quoting a fixed range for these risks misleading you with a price that's already gone stale. We always check and quote current pricing at the time of diagnosis.
No. The basic assessment at Dotronix is always FREE, even if you decide not to proceed. You only pay if you agree to the written quote we provide.
Yes, if your part needs to be ordered from overseas. We work with established Malaysian suppliers who give us clear, consistent lead-time guidelines, so 14-21 working days is a real policy, not a guess. We keep you proactively updated throughout the wait, and any deposit is only requested after you approve.
Every quote is written and itemised before we start work — no surprise charges afterward. Our principle: fix it properly, or don't charge the customer.
