Dents, scuffs or hinge damage? We restore the body too.
Casing damage isn't just cosmetic — a bent chassis or cracked hinge can put pressure on internal components over time. Where other shops force a top case swap or turn the unit away, we do structural realignment.

Arshad did a good job repairing my btoken laptop cover in a few hours
Google Review · Kepong BranchSurveyed laptop repair centres who would work on the roughened and tainted (with scratches and stickiness) surface of laptop palmrest casing. The others (4-5 centres) informed to change full casing for more than rm450++ excluding upah. Dotronix is the only one experienced enough to advice paint job over the issue for a way better affordable deal. They did a good job at it! Also fixed the dent on the side of laptop. Did internal cleaning and complimented with a data recovery service. Thanks Dotronix!! Highly recommended!!

Google Review · Kuchai Lama BranchFound Dotronix via Google search. My laptop had a broken hinge and a damaged body part. It is quite an old model so replacement parts were not available but Dotronix managed to repair and recreate the parts. Great service too as they provided pick up and delivery and kept me updated on the progress of the repairs. Recommended!

A dropped or knocked MacBook often shows the damage on the outside first — a dented corner, a cracked hinge, or a chassis that no longer sits flat. Beyond appearance, this kind of damage can misalign the screen, put stress on internal cables, or prevent the lid from closing properly. We assess whether the damage is purely cosmetic or whether it's affecting the mechanics, and restore accordingly.
MacBook unibody chassis are machined from a single block of aluminium, which gives the shell its rigidity but also means an impact doesn't just dent the surface — it transmits stress through the whole panel. A corner strike near the hinge can rotate the hinge housing microscopically out of alignment, which is invisible to the eye but shows up as a lid that doesn't sit flush, a screen that looks slightly crooked against the base, or a hinge that suddenly feels stiffer on one side than the other. Left alone, that misalignment keeps flexing the display cable and Wi-Fi antenna wiring every time the lid opens and closes, which is how a purely cosmetic dent eventually becomes an intermittent display or Wi-Fi fault months later.
Why some repair centres reject a bent chassis
Structural chassis work needs purpose-built alignment jigs, corner dies, and a technician who's done enough of these repairs to know how much force a specific model's aluminium can take before it work-hardens and cracks instead of bending back. Most general repair counters don't stock this tooling — it's a niche investment that only pays off with volume — so when a customer brings in a bent unit, the default response is either a full top case replacement quote (often the single most expensive part on the machine) or a straight refusal because the shop genuinely isn't equipped for it. We carry that tooling specifically because body restoration is a core part of what we do, not an occasional side job.
Chassis realignment vs. full top case replacement
The two approaches solve the same problem very differently, and the right one depends on how far the deformation has gone.
| Situation | Typical Shop Approach | Dotronix Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Bent corner, lid doesn't sit flush | Quote a full top case replacement | Jig-based corner realignment |
| Hinge housing rotated out of alignment | Decline, or replace top case | Hinge housing structural rebuild |
| Cosmetic scuffs, no structural issue | Cosmetic buffing only, or upsell a swap | Cosmetic restoration, no unnecessary replacement |
| Aluminium cracked or frame compromised | Full top case replacement | Full top case replacement (same call — this is the one case it's genuinely needed) |
Realignment preserves your original chassis — including its serial number engraving and any Apple/OEM certification marks tied to the specific unit — and typically costs a fraction of a full top case swap. A full replacement is only the right call when the aluminium itself has cracked, or the internal frame is bent badly enough that forcing it back risks damaging the logic board tray or antenna routing underneath. We tell you honestly which category your MacBook falls into before quoting either way.
Hinge housing rebuilds, explained
The hinge housing is the aluminium structure the hinge barrel is seated into — not the hinge mechanism itself, but the chassis material around it. A side-impact drop often bends this housing rather than the hinge, which is why a hinge can feel "loose" or "gritty" even when the hinge mechanism tests fine in isolation. Rebuilding the housing means carefully reshaping that seated area back to spec so the hinge barrel sits correctly again, rather than simply replacing the hinge and leaving a misaligned housing to wear it out a second time.
Common signs to look out for
- Visible dents or bent corners on the casing
- Hinge feels loose, stiff, or makes a cracking sound
- Lid doesn't sit flush when closed
- Scratches or scuffs on the aluminium body
- Screen appears misaligned with the base
What usually causes it
- A drop or impact on a hard surface
- Repeated stress on the hinge from opening/closing
- Being carried in a bag without adequate protection
- General wear over years of daily use
The Klang Valley courier workflow
Structural work doesn't require you to be in Kuala Lumpur. If you're in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Klang or anywhere else in the Klang Valley, here's how a courier repair runs end to end.

Photo assessment on WhatsApp
Send photos of the damage from a few angles first — we'll give you an initial read on realignment vs. replacement before the unit even arrives.
In-person structural diagnosis
Once it arrives, we check hinge alignment, panel flush, and internal cable stress before confirming the final quote.
Realignment or rebuild performed
Jig-based corner realignment or hinge housing rebuild is carried out, with photos taken before and after.
QC test & courier return
Hinge action, lid flush and internal cable routing are all re-tested before we courier it back to you anywhere in Klang Valley.
