Laptop fan loud or grinding? Cleaning or replacement?
A loud or grinding fan usually starts as dust build-up, and can often be fixed with a cleaning and thermal paste service (RM120–150 standard, RM150–180+ for gaming/multi-pipe units). But if the noise is coming from a worn fan bearing, the fan itself needs replacing — we work out which one after inspection, not by recommending a fan swap before trying a clean first.

Google Review · Kuchai Lama BranchWent to Dotronix last year to clean my Dell G7 7588 laptop and was happy to know that they could service it (clean the fans and renew thermal paste) cause a lot of areas near me was unable to provide the service for my laptop model. Technicians were very friendly and knowledgeable, allowed me to see and take pictures of the whole process. No shady installers, login or anything needed. They just opened up the laptop and cleaned it as requested. Everything done within an hour, and worth the price. 10/10 Would go again to service my laptop. A real example we handled: a customer from Taman Desa with a custom-build Level51 laptop reported a loud CPU fan, while the GPU fan on the same unit was found to be fine. This is a common pattern — not every fan in a unit fails at the same time, so we check each fan separately rather than recommend replacing both at once. Final pricing for fan replacement depends on stock availability for that specific model, in the RM180–350 range.
Common signs to look out for
- Loud, grinding, or whining noise from the underside/side of the laptop, especially under heavy load
- Noise gets louder over time
- Laptop feels hotter than usual even though the fan is clearly spinning
- Noise only appears at certain fan speeds (e.g. during gaming, not at idle)
What usually causes it
- Dust and debris built up on the fan blades causing friction
- Fan bearing worn out from years of use
- Fan unbalanced after the laptop was dropped or knocked
- Dried thermal paste making the fan spin faster and more often to stay cool
How we diagnose this
Identify which fan is noisy
CPU, GPU, or both — not every unit has an issue on both fans at once, as with the Level51 case above.
Open up & inspect physically
Dust build-up and blade condition are checked directly, not diagnosed from sound alone.
Test spin & bearing
The fan is tested to determine whether the noise is dust-related friction (cleanable) or a worn bearing (needs replacing).
Recommend based on the real cause
Cleaning & thermal paste if dust is the main cause, or fan replacement if the bearing is worn — not a fan swap sold before trying a clean first.
Pricing (Master Rate Card)

| Fan replacement (if bearing worn, subject to model stock) | RM180–350 | 1–2 days (stock-dependent) |
The RM180–350 fan-replacement range reflects real cases and depends on stock availability for your exact model. Full pricing policy: why our prices & turnaround aren't fixed.
