A real case we handled: a customer from Kuchai Lama sent in an ASUS TUF F15 whose motherboard was damaged by water, along with a keyboard that was also affected. The motherboard was successfully repaired within 2 days (RM280), but the keyboard for that specific model wasn't available locally and had to be imported (RM180, 15–20 days) — the customer also requested a power-button modification (RM30). Total came to RM310, with the customer choosing to come inspect the unit first before proceeding — an approach we always welcome.
Common signs to look out for
- Laptop was exposed to water/liquid that seeped inside, not just on the surface
- Laptop won't turn on at all after contact with water
- Laptop turns on but the display is glitchy, freezes, or shuts off again immediately
- Burning smell or heat marks inside after opening the unit
What usually causes it
- Drink spills (water, coffee, tea) directly onto the keyboard
- Laptop exposed to rain or high humidity inside a bag
- Laptop dropped into water (tub, pool, sink)
- Condensation building up inside the unit from extreme temperature changes
How we diagnose this
Open and dry the unit immediately
The first step is always isolating the power source and drying the unit before any electrical testing, to avoid further damage.
Check for corrosion on the circuit board
Water/liquid contact can cause corrosion that spreads if not cleaned promptly; we inspect the real extent of damage before determining repairability.
Test each component separately
Motherboard, keyboard, and other affected parts are tested individually — as in the real case above, more than one component is often affected at once.
Flag any import requirement upfront
If a specific part isn't available locally, we tell you the import timeline (usually 15–20 days) during diagnosis, not as a late surprise.
